Legislative Update

Friday, April 26, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

Here is an update on the latest news from St. Paul.

This week we’ve heard four omnibus bills so far, with another two up for a vote today. The largest bill by far has been the Health and Human Services omnibus bill, which comes in at over 1100 pages and is widely regarded as the largest bill in state history.

Some of the provisions in the Health and Human Services bill include bringing back the tax on doctor visits, hospital stays, medical procedures and more, which will cost Minnesotans over $2.5 billion over the next four years. The bill also cuts funding for the state’s nursing homes by over $68 million, and does very little to address the rampant fraud in the Childcare Assistance Program and other public programs. I voted no, and I hope the bill comes back from conference committee without all of these harmful provisions.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of assistance to you or your family on a matter of state government. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-4346 or by email at rep.brian.johnson@house.mn.

Have a great week.

Sincerely,

Brian
