Legislative Update

Monday, April 15, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

Here is an update on the latest news from St. Paul.

I’ve been hearing from a lot of constituents about all the taxes the Democrats are planning to raise, so I wanted to give more information on some of the tax increases that have been proposed. The Transportation Omnibus Bill increases taxes by almost $4 billion on gas, auto registration, and the metro area sales tax. The Health and Human Services Omnibus Bill brings back the tax on health care providers which will cost Minnesotans $2.5 billion, and the tax increase to fund paid family leave, which will total over $2 billion. In addition, the tax omnibus bill includes over $4 billion in tax increases on its own. I oppose raising taxes, especially to the incredibly unnecessary level the Democrats are proposing.

This week the Legislature is on break for Easter, so there will be no official House business. I’m looking forward to spending time in the district and having more conversations with constituents!

I want to wish everyone a happy Easter. I look forward to spending time with friends and family, and I hope you are able to enjoy time celebrating with loved ones too.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of assistance to you or your family on a matter of state government. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-4346 or by email at rep.brian.johnson@house.mn.

Have a great week.

Sincerely,

Brian
