Legislative Update

Friday, December 2, 2016

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The Office of Minnesota Management and Budget released their November Economic forecast today and revealed our state has a $1.4 billion overall surplus heading into Fiscal Years 2018-19. Additionally, $334 million of this biennium’s balance goes directly into the state budget reserves, bringing that total up to near $1.9 billion.

Thanks to fiscal restraint by House Republicans to check state government growth, Minnesota is continuing to see budget surpluses. But while the state may be seeing a surplus, families aren’t always feeling that same benefit. That’s why next session, one of my top priorities will again be providing meaningful long-term tax relief to families, small businesses, seniors and farmers.

Additionally, next session I also want to focus on continuing to find ways to save taxpayer dollars and improve government efficiencies. Providing relief to those affected by skyrocketing health care costs and a broken MNsure system will be a top priority as well.

In the meantime, if you have any suggestions, concerns, or ideas on how to improve state government, I would love to hear from you. I can be reached by phone at 651.296.4346 or by email at rep.brian.johnson@house.mn.

Thank you for the privilege to serve as your state representative.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Brian Johnson
