Minnesota House Elections Committee passes two bills in second week of session

St. Paul, MN – Yesterday, the Minnesota House Elections Committee moved swiftly to pass two bills, HF 28 and HF 110 chief authored by Rep. Cedrick Fraizer (DFL – New Hope) and Rep. Larry Kraft (DFL – St. Louis Park,) respectively.

HF 28, known as the “Restore the Vote Act” would restore the right to vote to individuals convicted of a felony upon completion of incarceration imposed and executed by a court for the offense. HF 110 would allow individuals to pre-register to vote at age 16.

"Voting rights is something that affects us all, and we should all have a vested interest in ensuring strong voting protections for Minnesotans,” said committee chair Mike Freiberg. “I’m looking forward to working together to enact these and other solutions to strengthen our democracy.”

A video of the hearing can be found here. The committee will meet again on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.
