Rep. Mike Freiberg votes to pass HF 28, the “Restore the Vote” Act

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Tonight, the Minnesota House of Representatives voted to pass HF 28, known as the “Restore the Vote” Act, off the House floor. The bill would restore voting rights to individuals upon completion of any incarceration. Rep. Mike Freiberg (DFL – Golden Valley) is a co-author on the bill and voted to support it. This bill was also the first bill of the session to be heard in the Elections Finance and Policy committee, which Rep. Freiberg chairs.

“Voting is the cornerstone of a healthy democracy, and I’m thankful that Minnesota is taking this stride in restoring voting rights,” said Rep. Freiberg. “Both red and blue states across the country, including our neighbor North Dakota, restore voting rights as soon as incarceration has ended. It’s time Minnesota joins them.”

In the Senate, the bill is making its way through committee hearings.
