ST. PAUL— Today, Minnesota House Speaker-designate Melissa Hortman announced State Rep. Mike Freiberg (DFL – Golden Valley) will chair the Government Operations Committee. The committee will help ensure that state government works for all Minnesotans. Rep. Freiberg released the following statement:
“I am excited to work with Governor-elect Walz and his administration to make sure Minnesotans are getting what they expect from important public services. We live in a great state with a well-run government, but there is always room for improvement. I look forward to working with all policymakers to make Minnesota a better place to live, work, and play.”
The Government Operations Committee provides oversight to local government, all state boards, commissions, and task forces, and has jurisdiction over election policy. Rep. Freiberg is a former city council member and was the vice chair of the Government Operations Committee during the 2013-2014 biennium. In January, he will be sworn in for his fourth term in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
