Legislative Update - January 24, 2017

Tuesday, January 24, 2017

Hello neighbors,

It has been a busy week in St. Paul. Last night the Governor delivered his seventh State of the State address. I was honored to attend, and my guest was the Mayor of Robbinsdale.  Unfortunately after speaking for 40 minutes the Governor fainted but quickly recovered. I am very glad the Governor Dayton is doing better. He is back to work today and presented his proposed state budget.

The Governor proposed an increase of 2% each year on the per pupil formula for our schools which is great news. We must continue to invest in our children and schools so we can provide more opportunities for every student to succeed. That is the only way to truly close the achievement gap: stop it before it starts.

I am also thankful that Governor Dayton continues to push for a comprehensive transportation plan with constitutionally dedicated funding that also supports transit options. For Minnesota to succeed in a 21st century economy we must have a transportation and transit system to match it.

Reply to this email and let me know what your priorities are for the legislative session. I am here to represent you!

Sincerely,

Mike Freiberg
State Representative
