RELEASE: Rep. Becker-Finn, Rep. Fischer, and Rep. Wazlawik Condemn Inadequate Reponse to Toxic Chemical Exposures

Thursday, August 15, 2019

SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Today, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) announced that TCE and other toxic chemicals were found on the site of the Water Gremlin manufacturing plant. Rep. Jamie Becker-Finn (DFL – Roseville), Rep. Peter Fischer (DFL – Maplewood), and Rep. Ami Wazlawik (DFL – White Bear Lake) released the following statement in response:

“This level of pollution is unacceptable, particularly considering Water Gremlin’s history and residential location. Water Gremlin must be held accountable for continuing to release dangerous chemicals and betraying our communities’ trust. We urge Water Gremlin to immediately shut down until it’s proven that further exposure can be prevented. If Water Gremlin refuses to voluntarily comply with the MPCA’s request to shut down, we urge the MPCA to take immediate alternative action to protect the community. We further encourage the MPCA to test the water and soil in the residential area neighboring the Water Gremlin property. Residents deserve to know what toxic chemicals they may be exposed to in their homes and yards.”

Rep. Becker-Finn, Rep. Fischer, and Rep. Wazlawik have advocated for banning TCE and adopting stronger regulatory measures to protect the health and well-being of Minnesotans.
