Legislative Update (9-8-21)

Wednesday, September 8, 2021

Neighbor,

Thank you to everyone who attended the town hall meeting I co-hosted last evening in Park Rapids. There were around 200 people there and the feedback we received is very helpful.

One thing that really stood out is the high level of concern people have regarding vaccine mandates. Most of that message came from people who work at nursing homes or hospitals, but also was expressed state employees.

We also heard a good deal of concern about everything from school standards to Critical Race Theory, emergency powers, election integrity and Afghanistan. In fact, the discussion flowed so well, the meeting lasted more than three hours.

I thank everyone who took the time to attend and, again, your input is valuable as I continue working to best represent the people of our area. I would like to set up another town hall meeting in our district soon and will share those details when they are set.

In other news, I also attended last Sunday’s Medical Freedom Rally in Nevis. There were between 80-90 people there. Groups are forming to support medical staff and state employees that are uncomfortable being mandated to get the vaccination and I will be participating. These folks worked through a tough year protecting and serving the people of Minnesota. Their reward should not be a pink slip.

On Friday, House and Senate Republicans joined Congressman Pete Stauber and labor leaders for a press conference in support of Line 3. It was set up to counter last weekend’s visit by Ilhan Omar and her group of fellow congressional extremists.

You can watch a replay of the press conference here and I also did a quick video shoot on Line 3 you can view at this link

In addition to the news conference, more than 60 GOP House and Senate members issued a statement which you can read here. The statement read, in part: "We are offended the D.C. ‘Squad’, led by Minneapolis Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, is coming to Northern Minnesota to protest and further obstruct a thoroughly vetted, tested, and approved project. Their presence will only serve to incite the obstructionists when it’s clear Line 3 has brought incredible benefits to the state and people. The blatant mistruths in their recent letter to the Biden Administration have already been debunked by union leaders.

Line 3 is around 90 percent complete after clearing an exhaustive series of studies and withstanding challenge after challenge from activists. I look forward to the day they turn on our new pipeline that will be safer and more efficient than the old one.
