ST. PAUL – House Democrats on Thursday approved two gun bills despite bipartisan opposition. State Rep. Steve Green, R-Fosston, said he has concerns with each of these bills (H.F. 8 and H.F. 9) and issued the following statement:
“I support the Second Amendment as much as anyone and voted against these bills because they violate the rights of law-abiding gun owners and cut out due process,” Green said. “One bill effectively creates a state gun registry and the other bill violates due process for gun confiscations. This will not stop people who are intent on doing harm. These are the kinds of bills that are causing counties in our state to begin declaring themselves as Second Amendment sanctuaries, standing up for our gun rights and slapping back at the heavy hand of government.”
The bills now head to the Senate, where the Republican majority has indicated the proposals are non-starters.
