End of Session Update (5-26-17)

Friday, May 26, 2017
Neighbors,

Early this morning we passed the last bill of our state budget. After long hours negotiating with Governor Dayton and the Senate, we reached a budget agreement, and Governor Dayton has given his word that he will sign these bills into law.

The two major highlights from our budget are the tax relief portion and transportation funding package.

Our tax bill brings $650 million in tax relief to our middle class, including families saving for college, farmers, small businesses, and senior citizens.

The transportation portion of our bill funds a 10-year plan that will repair and build roads and bridges throughout Minnesota. This is the largest transportation funding package we have ever passed in our state without raising taxes.

Also included in the transportation bill was additional funding for small cities to repair local roads and bridges.

I’ll include more detailed information on specific budget bills in the coming weeks, but I am pleased with the conservative reforms and budgeting we were able to pass this session.

Here is a quick summary video from the hours of session: https://youtu.be/VBfe-6d0X5A

Please have a relaxing Memorial Day weekend remembering the men and women we have lost in service to our nation. If you have a chance, please thank a family who has lost a loved one in military service. This is a scared day for our nation, and I look forward to observing it back home in our district.
