Legislative Update (7-1-16)

Friday, July 1, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

There is nothing new to report on the special session front this week. The governor and legislative leaders have been periodically meeting since the end of May, but we do not appear to be any closer to an agreement on the parameters of a special session.

I will keep you in the loop if there is any news to pass along.

Transportation

I have received a number of questions in recent weeks regarding transportation funding. To be clear, the legislature fully-funded transportation for the biennium in 2015.

We were unable to pass a funding package that would have invested an additional $6 billion in our roads and bridges due to disagreement on how to best pay for these needed repairs. I was supportive of the House position that would have redirected already existing taxes towards our road and bridge needs. The Governor and Senate supported a plan that would have raised the gas tax.

I expect this issue to be revisited in the coming legislation session.

Staying in Touch
