Train Derailment in Callaway

Thursday, March 24, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

Earlier today, a train derailment occurred in Callaway.

While details are still scarce at the moment, I wanted to pass along the information that we currently have.

According to MNDOT, the derailment was due to a crash at a railway crossing between a Canadian Pacific train and a propane truck. It was reported that there were at least 2 injuries, although we do not know the extent of those injuries at this time.

The entire town of Callaway was evacuated following the crash and derailment due to leaking propane from the semi-truck.

I have been in communication with local officials, gathering information and assisting in any way I can.

Please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have any questions regarding this accident. While we are still gathering information, I will get you in touch with folks on the ground to assist you. The quickest way to contact me is by email at rep.steve.green@house.mn.

For additional information you can contact the Minnesota State Patrol’s District Office at 218-846-8260 or the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division of the Department of Public Safety at 218-766-2301.

I will pass along additional information as it becomes available.
