Rep. Raymond Dehn responds to Uber rally

Thursday, March 19, 2015

SAINT PAUL, MN—Today, Rep. Raymond Dehn (DFL-Minneapolis) joined drivers and users of Uber rallied at the Capitol to urge legislators to oppose legislation that would jeopardize their business.  Uber, which operates a mobile phone based ridesharing service, has grown dramatically in Minnesota.  It provides jobs for independent drivers and additional options for safe and reliable transportation.  The proposed legislation would create crippling and unnecessary insurance requirements for ridesharing services such as Uber.

Rep. Dehn released the following Statement:

“Uber already provides adequate insurance coverage, which starts the moment a rider steps into a car until they are safely dropped off.  This legislation would create unnecessary barriers that would force Uber out of Minnesota.

Uber’s innovative technology is creating jobs and providing more options for people to access safe transportation in Minnesota.   Just this last week Uber provided 5,000 sober rides on Saint Patrick’s Day.  We shouldn’t cripple this industry before it has a chance to take hold in Minnesota.”
