Rep. Dehn Praises Governor’s Budget Proposal

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

Saint Paul – Today, Governor Mark Dayton released his budget proposal for the next two years. With a budget surplus and a growing economy, he continued to build on the progress of the last two years by putting forward a regionally balanced budget that invests in early childhood education, affordable college, job training, transportation and broadband infrastructure, and tax breaks for hard working, middle class families.

“After the last two years, Minnesota has a budget surplus and a growing economy. The Governor’s budget proposal reflects those realities,” said Rep. Raymond Dehn. “This budget is good for Minneapolis and for Minnesota. The strong focus on education and families will help close the achievement gap, prepare more of our children for school and help families by making sure child care is more affordable. The Governor’s budget is fiscally responsible. Should there be more funds, I would support that a portion of the additional fund be used to build Minnesota’s budget reserves.”

The Governor’s budget guarantees that every child in Minnesota will be able to attend free Pre-Kindergarten, ensuring that more children are ready and able to succeed in school. It makes college more affordable and expands job training, which will keep good-paying jobs here in Minnesota as our economy changes. He invests in repairing our crumbling transportation infrastructure and expanding transit, making our communities more livable. Had the surplus been larger, Governor Dayton would use the extra funds to increase our reserves.
