Rep.-elect Dehn Selected to Serve on Capital Investment, Commerce and Consumer Protection Finance and Policy, State Government Finance and Veterans Affairs, and Transportation Finance Committees

Friday, December 21, 2012

(ST. PAUL) — Last week, House Speaker-designate Paul Thissen announced the Minnesota House of Representatives committee assignments for the 2013-2014 biennium, selecting state Representative-elect Raymond Dehn (DFL – Minneapolis) to serve on the Capital Investment, Commerce and Consumer Protection Finance and Policy, State Government Finance and Veterans Affairs, and Transportation Finance Committees.

“I’m honored to be serving on these committees and working on issues that matter deeply to the people in the district I represent,” said Rep.-elect Dehn. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on a robust bonding bill that puts workers back on the job, rebuilds our crumbling infrastructure, and funds transit. My work on the Commerce and Consumer Protection Committee will focus on ensuring that Minnesotans are protected from unfair business practices and scams, and that our local businesses can grow and be competitive.”

“In times of budget deficits, we must make sure that government operates efficient while providing necessary services and funding priorities like education, while also doing all that we can for our veterans. Finally, I’m very pleased to be serving on the Transportation Finance Committee. We have a great deal of work to do to improve our transit system and with that improved transit system will come economic development and opportunity for our district.”

Outside the legislature, Rep.-elect Dehn works as a design and sustainability consultant. His involvement in his community has taken many forms: participating in his neighborhood association, volunteering with the Senate District 58-DFL, and serving on the city of Minneapolis Capitol Long Range Improvement Committee.

For the past couple of years Rep.-elect Dehn has been co-facilitating the Northside Transportation Network with Sen.-elect Bobby Joe Champion and engaging the north side community around the proposed Bottineau Light Rail Transit Line. He has volunteered with many local, state and national campaigns, and continues to reach out and actively engage those who feel disenfranchised by the political process.

The Legislative Session is scheduled to begin on January 8, 2013.
