Statement from State Representative Raymond Dehn on police-involved death in Minneapolis

Tuesday, May 26, 2020

St. Paul, MN - State Representative Raymond Dehn (DFL - Minneapolis), whose district includes downtown and north Minneapolis, released the following statement after a video of an incident involving a white Minneapolis police officer ended in the death of a black resident:

“George Floyd should be alive today. The video many are now seeing is graphic and horrifying, but we must do all that we can to ensure these terrible images don’t numb our resolve to deliver justice and build a more accountable and inclusive society. What we see in this video is the result of structures of white supremacy that perpetuate that black and brown people don’t matter. They do. It’s long past time to dismantle the systems that allow this type of behavior to persist. No Minnesotan should fear for their safety because of what they look like, and I join with our community in grieving today and working toward that future. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Mr. George Floyd.”
