Rep. Raymond Dehn Applauds Governor’s Veto to Protect Peaceful Protest

Sunday, May 20, 2018

St. Paul, Minn.- Yesterday, Governor Dayton vetoed HF 390 the bill that would have increased and established criminal penalties for protesters in Minnesota. Rep. Raymond Dehn (DFL-Minneapolis) released the following statement:

“I’m glad the Governor vetoed this divisive and harmful bill. We as lawmakers should be concerned about the underlying injustices which are causing underrepresented communities to protest in the first place. Poverty, disparities in education, an unbalanced criminal justice system, are just a few of the large multi-faceted issues that need to be addressed. Minnesotans are protesting because they want a more fair and just society.”
