Legislative Update (May 12, 2017)

Friday, May 12, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

Happy Mother’s Day weekend! Looks like the weather will be great, and we should all enjoy the time to celebrate the moms in our lives. Before we head to our warm weekend, I wanted to send a quick update from St. Paul.

We’ve ironed out our budget bill differences with the Senate, and are now in the process of passing them and sending them to the governor. This week, we passed a number of bills, including a $1.15 billion tax relief proposal, and legislation to invest $2 billion in roads and bridges. The House and Senate should finish this process on Monday. I remain optimistic we’ll finish our work, but need the governor’s willingness to find a common ground on these budget bills.

Also this week, the House approved my bill, SF997/HF1203, on a wide bipartisan vote of 112-18. The legislation ensures health plans cover prescription eye drop refills. If you’ve ever had to use eye drops, you know that sometimes when you try to use five drops, you end up using six or seven, unintentionally going through your prescription faster. I was happy to see the bipartisan support, and expect the governor will sign this bill into law soon.

Again, Happy Mother’s Day!

Enjoy your weekend,

Tony
