Legislative Update (March 17, 2017)

Friday, March 17, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Whether you’re Irish or not, I hope you’ll have a festive - yet safe - weekend!

Health Care Bill

As you know, one of my areas of interest at the Capitol relates to health care. It was a goal coming into this session to reform this system, and make insurance more affordable for Minnesotans. On Monday, we passed another bill that could lower costs and stabilize the individual insurance market. Our legislation is projected to decrease premiums by 17-18%. Obamacare and MNsure have hurt our state, and we’re doing what we can to fix the mistakes of legislative Democrats. These are incremental steps for revitalizing the market for 2018. It’s not a miracle fix, but we need to take steps in the right direction to ensure we’ll have an individual market next year.

My Bills

The second of three committee deadlines is today. We’re hearing lots of bills in committee, and I’ve been fortunate to present many pieces of legislation to my colleagues. I have bills reforming the Met Council, promoting small business technological advances, creating new employment services, and authorizing and regulating fantasy sports in Minnesota. It’s a wide array of topics, but I’m thankful for the opportunity to author these bills while representing the views of the residents of our area. As my legislation moves forward, I’ll be sure to keep you updated.

Jordan’s Finest

I want to congratulate some incredible residents from Jordan. The city recently gave awards to Joe O’Brien (Outstanding Agriculturalist), Hedy Joachim (Distinguished Service Award), and Tanya Velishek (Outstanding Young Jordanite). Congratulations to our exemplary residents for being important parts of our community. If you’d like to read more about the awards, please click here.
