Legislative Update (March 10, 2017)

Friday, March 10, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

Happy Friday! I’m sure you’re ready for the weekend, and are staying warm as we’re experiencing a short-lived (hopefully) cool-down.

Committee Deadlines

It’s an important and busy time of year at the Capitol. Today is the first of three committee deadlines. This means we’ve been hearing and debating lots of bills in committee, and starting to put together our budget bills. As we come towards the final two deadlines, please stay in contact on any of the bills we’re discussing, or anything that’s important to you. Your input is invaluable as I represent your views on these main issues.

Healthcare

Some of the big bills I’m working on relate to healthcare in Minnesota. I have legislation to allow the Board of Medical Practice to perform criminal background checks when licensing physicians in our state, two bills to improve mental healthcare, and language to expand grants for PA’s, APRN’s, and mental health professionals. I’m working closely with doctors, hospital administrators, and members from both parties to improve healthcare in Minnesota.

On a macro level, there’s certainly plenty of work to be done. We passed a healthcare relief and reform bill early in session, and are working on other long-term fixes to make insurance and care more affordable and accessible for Minnesotans. I’ll keep you updated as this starts to take shape.

Please Contact Me

As we’re discussing important proposals in St. Paul, I hope you’ll reach out to share your opinion. You can reach me via phone at (651) 296-5185, or via email at rep.tony.albright@house.mn.

Have a great weekend!
