Legislative Update (June 22, 2015)

Monday, June 22, 2015

Neighbors,

After five months of late night sessions and long meetings, and a one-day special session, the legislature has completed our duties and passed our budget bills in a bipartisan fashion.

Reflecting on this past legislative session, I am proud of the work we did to put Minnesota families and businesses first, engaging in bipartisan negotiations to pass bills that improve Minnesota for the next generation. Our education budget increases our investments in our youth by an average of $380 per pupil, several budgets addressed the growing concerns surrounding the avian influenza crisis, and we equalized nursing home rates across the state to give every senior exemplary care. Best of all, we passed a budget that doesn’t raise your taxes.

Of particular importance to our district, our Capital Investment bill contained flood relief funds for our district, as well as funds to prevent further damage in any future cases of severe weather. This was a top priority of mine this session, and I’m proud to be able to provide real relief to our district after the devastating impact of last summer’s storm.

Throughout the interim, please continue to stay in touch to share your thoughts and ideas for next year’s legislative session. You can reach me via phone at (651) 296-9183, or via email at rep.tony.albright@house.mn. I look forward to seeing you in our community!
