Rep. Chris Swedzinski statement re: Court upholding Winona County’s ban on the mining of sand

Wednesday, March 11, 2020

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Chris Swedzinski, R-Ghent, issued the following statement regarding the Minnesota Supreme Court’s decision Wednesday to leave in place Winona County’s ban on the mining, processing, and transportation of frac sand by Minnesota Sands, LLC:

“There are stringent rules in place to regulate aggregate mining that protect the environment while still allowing businesses and the economy to grow,” said Swedzinski, the lead Republican on the House Energy and Climate Finance and Policy Division. “It is extremely disappointing that the Minnesota Supreme Court sided with environmental activists that singled out one sector of the aggregate industry and unilaterally shut them out of the economy. This decision sends a chilling message to businesses throughout the state – that activists could target your industry next.”
