Legislative Update 1-11-16

Monday, January 11, 2016

Hello from the State Capitol,

Over the past few weeks, I've heard from a number of constituents who were concerned about Minnesota's REAL ID situation impacting their ability to board a flight.

We now have good news to report, as the Department of Homeland Security announced that the earliest that REAL ID-compliant licenses would ever be required to board an airplane is January 22nd, 2018. In addition, by October 1, 2020, all travelers must either have a REAL ID compliant license or some other acceptable ID.

This news means the Legislature will have plenty of time to comply with REAL ID during the upcoming legislative session, and it also means you have nothing to worry about if you plan to take a flight sometime in the future, as your drivers license will remain an acceptable form of identification at the airport.

Talk to you soon,

Kathy
