Rep. Moran to Receive 2014 Administration on Children, Youth and Families Commissioner’s Award

Tuesday, March 11, 2014
ST. PAUL, MN – Rep. Rena Moran (DFL – St. Paul) has been chosen by Governor Mark Dayton and leaders in Minnesota to receive the Administration of Children, Youth and Families (ACYF) Commissioner’s Award. Rep. Moran will receive her award at the 19th National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect in April in New Orleans.

“I’m honored Governor Dayton and my colleagues recognize the work I have done to support strong communities that positively impact the quality of lives of children,” said Rep. Moran. “This is an issue that we cannot ignore and I will continue to seek solutions to encourage positive development in children and make certain they are safe.”

The conference is sponsored by the Administration for Children, Youth and Families’ (ACYF) Children’s Bureau, Office on Child Abuse and Neglect. The administration promotes the economic and social well-being of families, children, individuals and communities. The conference is devoted to the issues of child maltreatment and the theme of this year’s conference is “Making Meaningful Connections.” This is the only federally sponsored national conference devoted to the issues of child maltreatment and serves as the nation’s leading training event for practitioners, policy makers, advocates, and researchers.

“I’m excited to join leaders from all across the country at the conference,” said Rep. Moran. “I hope to bring back new ideas and ways that we can address child abuse, neglect, and the underdevelopment of children in Minnesota.”

The ACYF Children’s Bureau aims to empower families and individuals to increase their economic independence and productivity, encourage strong and supportive communities that have a positive impact on children, and address the needs of various vulnerable populations including people with developmental disabilities, refugees and migrants.

This year’s conference will be held April 30 - May 2 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
