Rep. Rena Moran Receives National Award for Legislative Service

Thursday, October 3, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN – This week, Rep. Rena Moran (DFL – St. Paul) was selected as a 2013 WiLL Pacesetter and honored at a national conference, “Women at the Tables of Power,” sponsored by the Women Legislators’ Lobby (WiLL) of Women’s Action for New Directions (WAND), in Washington, DC.

WiLL Pacesetters are recognized for their noteworthy legislative service, their contributions to sound, progressive policy, and their groundbreaking leadership in their respective states. Rep. Moran was chosen for her commitment to excellence and a resolve that the voices of women of all races and stations in life are fully and fairly represented in shaping public policy.

Women Legislators’ Lobby and Women’s Action for New Directions encourage women to seek office, and provide them with vital tools and information to be successful. This year the biennial WiLL/WAND National Women’s Leadership conference convened women state legislators and community leaders with women Parliamentarians from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, and Morocco, and women Members of Congress, for policy briefings, networking, and strategizing for national budget priorities that revitalize the U.S. economy as well as international policies that protect women and girls worldwide.

The Pacesetter Award was presented to Rep. Moran at a Capitol Hill reception earlier this week. Congresswoman Donna Edwards (MD-4), the first African-American woman elected to Congress from Maryland, gave the keynote address at the event.

“I’m honored to receive this award,” said Rep. Moran. “Our nation is at its best when the voices of every person—regardless of race, gender, income, or background—are valued and respected. As an elected official, I strive to uphold that commitment every single day.”
