Legislative Update – February 22, 2021

Monday, February 22, 2021

Dear Neighbors,

Thanks to everyone who joined the United Black Legislative Caucus for our Virtual Town Hall Meeting to discuss our 2021 Legislative Agenda. It was an engaging discussion about many difficult issues facing our community, about which there are a variety of diverse viewpoints. You can watch a replay of the meeting on the UBLC Facebook page, which I encourage you to “like” as well.

Constituent Survey

All Minnesotans deserve to weather this pandemic and thrive beyond it. As state lawmakers begin to assemble a two-year budget, we are beginning a conversation about how to build a better future for every family, every small business, every student, and every Minnesotan.

I’m interested in hearing about your challenges, concerns, and vision for the future. Please take this short survey to let me know what you’d like to see elected leaders prioritize this session at the State Capitol.

AG Ellison Listening Session

Ellison Richardson Moran Event

To commemorate Black History Month, Attorney General Keith Ellison is hosting a series of virtual listening sessions on issues facing Black Minnesotans. Next Tuesday, Representative Ruth Richardson – my colleague from Mendota Heights and my co-chair of the House Select Committee on Racial Justice – and I will join the Attorney General for a listening session he is hosting to review our report to the Legislature.

We will meet tomorrow night, Tuesday, February 23 at 6 p.m. on AG Ellison’s Facebook page. Please join us if you’re able!

Vaccine Connector

connector

Last week, the state of Minnesota launched a new tool to help let Minnesotans know when they are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. We all recognize how frustrating it’s been to have such a limited supply, but there are many reasons to be optimistic distribution will greatly accelerate soon, including substantial new orders from the federal government.

The new Vaccine Connector will alert Minnesotans when they are eligible, connect you to resources to schedule an appointment, and notify you about vaccine opportunities near you. Learn more and sign up here. Assistance is also available over the phone at 833-431-2053.

In addition to speeding up distribution of the vaccine itself, we need to ensure our equity goals are being met. I’ll keep pushing to ensure Black, Indigenous, and people of color are able to have equitable opportunities to get the vaccine.

Please feel free to reach out throughout the session to share your feedback, offer your ideas, or let me know if I can be of help. It’s an honor to represent you.

Sincerely,

Rena Moran
State Representative
