Capitol Update from Rep. Deb Kiel

Thursday, July 21, 2016

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Special session negotiations are ongoing between the governor and House and Senate leaders. Talks seem to be moving in a positive direction, and I am hopeful they can come to a final agreement soon to repass our vetoed, bipartisan tax bill which provided more than half a billion in ongoing and permanent tax relief to families, farmers, small businesses, college graduates and veterans. Other legislation in final negotiations include transportation and bonding, a bill that contains a number of important projects for Northwest Minnesota but died in the Senate over an amendment for Southwest Light Rail earlier this year.

If talks continue to go well, a special session could happen as soon as August.

I also wanted to send this update to let you know that due to a 60-day post-session rule, I will no longer be able to send out any news from the Capitol until November. Please know, however, that my office is available to you should you need assistance. I can be reached by email at rep.deb.kiel@house.mn, by phone at 651-296-5091 or by mail at 537 State Office Building, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Saint Paul, Minnesota 55155.

As always, I welcome your thoughts, questions, concerns and ideas on how we can make our great state even better!

It’s an honor to represent you at the Capitol. I hope you are enjoying your summer!

Sincerely,

Deb
