Legislative Update from Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen

Tuesday, June 15, 2021

Dear Neighbors,

The legislature returned to St. Paul yesterday to begin a multi-day special session to wrap up budget negotiations and approve bills that will fund government for the next two years.

Yesterday afternoon, the Minnesota House of Representatives voted for the 19th time to end the peacetime emergency. Monday marked the 458th day living under emergency powers and it is more clear than ever that the pandemic is over and the need for emergency powers has long passed.

Everyone except one person, Governor Walz, recognizes that the emergency is over. That’s why I voted once again to end his powers. Unfortunately the House majority DFL refused to provide the additional votes to end the Governor’s emergency powers. The DFL & Governor are following political science not the medical science.

I will continue working hard to end the emergency powers and restore the people’s voice, the legislature, to its rightful role as a co-equal branch of government.

Stay tuned for more updates as the special session progresses in the days and weeks ahead. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out to me to share your thoughts and concerns. I can be reached at 651-296-4229 or via email at rep.glenn.gruenhagen@house.mn.

Have a great day,

Glenn
