Legislative Update from Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen

Friday, January 20, 2017

Dear Friends,

Here is a brief overview of this week’s event.

HF1, MNsure Reforms

This week we saw the passage of House File 1, after its trip through the committee process. As I have mentioned before, we could have passed this bill the first working day of session if House Democrats had agreed to declare an urgency and pass the bill when it was first debated on the House floor. Now, two weeks later, this bill has gone through the appropriate committees, and should pass the House without difficulty.

This bill is a three-pronged approach toward addressing the MNsure crisis. Firstly, it gets people the premium relief they desperately need. Secondly, it ensures continuity of care for those receiving lif-saving treatments and end-of-life care. Thirdly, it will encourage competition in the insurance market to provide Minnesotans with more affordable options for their health insurance.

I look forward to this bill being debated during conference committee with the Senate, and hope it will be receive its final passage by the House and Senate shortly, and be sent to Governor Dayton without delay, so that Minnesotans can get some desperately needed relief.

Presidential Inauguration

Today, our new president was sworn in, and the great American tradition of a peaceful transition of power was continued. I look forward to four years of President’s Trump leadership over our nation as we move forward to a brighter future for all Americans. God bless this new administration, and God bless our great nation.

Sincerely,

Glenn
