Dear Friends,

It is an honor to once again represent the best at the Capitol. Thank you for the privilege of being your voice in St. Paul. Before session started, I was appointed to serve as the Republican lead on the Sustainable Infrastructure Committee. I will also serve on the Capital Investment and Human Services Finance Committees.

There is a lot of work to do this session. With a $17.6 billion surplus, it is clear our state has a taxing problem. We must return Minnesotans’ hard-earned tax dollars in the form of tax relief for families, including ending the tax on social security. At a time when families are struggling to pay their gas, grocery, and energy bills, we need to make our state more affordable for all.

While my Republican colleagues and I are focused on returning the surplus to Minnesotans, Democrats have shown that they are going to push a far-left agenda that will grow government and spend more of your hard-earned tax dollars. Their priorities are clear in the first three bills they introduced: They want unlimited access to abortions, mandated paid family and medical leave for all businesses, and radical changes to Minnesota’s voting laws. You can read these bills here.

Even bipartisan legislation that Democrats agreed to during the campaign is now being questioned. The very first bill I signed on to this year is to end the tax on social security benefits. Minnesota is one of only a handful of states that still tax social security and it is my top priority that we end this tax to help our seniors. Many Democrats have come out in favor of this common-sense tax relief, but their leadership is now changing their tune. It will be interesting to watch the DFL debate this issue. I will keep fighting to end the tax on social security and I hope we can finally get this done for Minnesotans.

While the DFL pushes a far-left agenda, I will stand up for our way of life. Government needs to be small and a better steward of your tax dollars, not bigger and more expensive. We need to protect the rights of the unborn and ensure the health and safety of mothers. We also need to ensure our individual rights and liberties are protected. I know we share these priorities and I look forward to updating you as session progresses.
