Legislative Update from Rep Mary Franson

Friday, November 5, 2021

Dear Friends,

It’s hard to miss that the price of everything is on the rise. With the holidays upon us, I know this is a huge concern for so many families.

But why is this happening? Irresponsible Democrat spending in Washington, DC is taking money out of Minnesotans' pockets. In a story for MPR, University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management marketing professor Mark Bergen likened recent inflation to a tax saying, “It’s taking your budgets, taking your income, and it’s slowly eroding away how much you’re going to be able to buy.”

And price increases aren’t stopping at the pump or grocery store. On Monday, CenterPoint Energy and Xcel Energy, asked regulators for a rate increase of about 6.5%. This is on top of the increases customers would expect when the price of gas increases during our cold Minnesota winters.

The elections this week in our state and across the country show that Americans believe we are heading down the wrong path. We must support law enforcement to keep our cities safe. Calls to defund the police were met with a resounding failure in Minneapolis. We must also support parents and ensure their voice is heard in the classroom. The school board race in our community, and the election of Governor-elect Youngkin in Virginia, shows that Americans reject Critical Race Theory and political indoctrination in our schools.

Inflation, public safety, and education are the issues that Minnesotans care about. These are the issues that will define the next legislative session, and ultimately the 2022 elections. I will always be your voice in St. Paul for fiscal responsibility, safe communities, and a quality education for all students.
