Update from St. Paul

Friday, February 17, 2017

Greetings from the Capitol!

On Wednesday evening I attended the Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life Legislative Dinner. It was great to be with so many pro-life advocates and discuss important legislative issues for this session.

I have chief-authored a bill (House File 809) that would ban taxpayer dollars in Minnesota from being spent on abortions; spending your money to fund abortions is wrong and it needs to be stopped now. This bill has bi-partisan support and I hopeful it moves through the legislative process this session.

The Subcommittee on Childcare Access and Affordability, which I chair, will be wrapping up in the coming weeks. If you have any issues and/or stories to share, please do so now.

Polar Plunge:

The 2017 Alexandria Polar Plunge benefiting Special Olympic athletes will be on Sunday, February 26th at 1:00 PM at Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center (2100 Arrowwood Lane NW).

Ditch Mowing:

Late last fall, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), from the direction of Governor Dayton, issued a statement detailing a new policy requiring a permit for landowners to obtain in order to mow ditches.

This is a large overreach of MnDOT’s authority and it is being addressed. A bill to remedy this issue is currently moving through the committee process in the legislature and I expect it to come before the House of Representatives for a vote of the entire body later in session.

Does State Government Owe You Money?:

Each year, the Minnesota Department of Commerce receives millions of dollars in unclaimed property. The property is turned over to the state by businesses, banks, etc., as they are not able to locate the rightful owner.

The Department now has a program designed to find missing money and/or financial property and reunite it with the rightful owner. Additionally, there is a bill currently going through the legislative process that would require the Department to more actively seek out the folks that are owed money and/or financial property.

Check out this link to see if Minnesota owes you money.

If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding any issue related to state government, please feel free to contact me at either 651-296-3201 or rep.mary.franson@house.mn. I would love to hear from you.

I truly represent the best!

Sincerely,
