Dear Neighbors,
Here is the latest news from the Capitol!
On Tuesday, I had a bill hearing on HF 18, a bill to appropriate money for compensation payments for claims of crop or fence damage caused by wild elk, or for destroyed livestock caused by wolves. In 2018, there was over $150,000 in wolf claims and almost $75,000 in elk claims, so it is important to fully fund this program.
I also had a bill hearing on Thursday, for HF 2527, which provides money for grants to the Minnesota Turf Seed Council for research purposes. Richard Magnusson, a farmer from Roseau and president of the Turf Seed Council, came to the Capitol to testify on the bill and did a great job educating the committee about why this bill is needed! A large portion of that money would go to the University of Minnesota Magnusson Research Farm in Roseau, which was made possible through a donation from the Magnusson family.
