HOUSE MAJORITY ANNOUNCES LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES, SESSION FRAMEWORK

Thursday, January 8, 2015

Focus on Better-Paying Jobs, Education, Aging Services, Roads & Bridges, and Health Care

St. Paul- Speaker Kurt Daudt (R-Crown) and Majority Leader Joyce Peppin (R-Rogers) announced House Republicans’ first five House Files Thursday. These initial pieces of legislation will serve as framework for a statewide discussion.

“We believe strongly that citizens should define the scope of our work here in the legislature. The five pieces of legislation we are introducing today reflect issues that matter most to Minnesotans. This is a starting point intended to focus our statewide discussion. Over the next several weeks, we will continue listening to Minnesotans, identifying their problems and working toward solutions that benefit everyone,” said Speaker Daudt.

Speaker Daudt and Majority Leader Peppin were joined by bill authors or co-authors for the first five House Files, Rep. Ron Kresha (R-Little Falls), Rep. Jenifer Loon (R-Eden Prairie), Rep. Joe Schomacker (R-Luverne), Rep. Tim Kelly (R-Red Wing), and Rep. Tara Mack (R-Apple Valley) respectively. The first five bills will guide House Republicans’ legislative efforts to:

•  Grow additional better-paying jobs for all - House File 1

•  Make sure every child receives a world-class education - House File 2

•  Protect aging adults’ quality of life - House File 3

•  Refocus transportation dollars on roads and bridges - House File 4

•  Ensure fair access and affordability in health care - House File 5

“The issues that matter to Minnesotans are the issues that matter most to us. We intend to work together with Minnesotans to ensure their kids are getting the best education, their loved ones are getting the quality care they need, their commute is safe and convenient, and they have opportunities to take good-paying jobs right here in our great state. We’re excited to announce our legislative priorities and continue discussions with our communities,” said Majority Leader Peppin.

House Files 1 through 5 will be introduced during Thursday’s legislative session.
