REPUBLICAN LEADERS' STATEMENT ON APRIL REVENUE REVIEW

Monday, May 12, 2014

St. Paul- Minnesota Management and Budget Commissioner, Jim Schowalter, released Minnesota’s last monthly review before the legislature adjourns sine die showing year to date receipts are $78 million less than forecast. This is the third straight month where revenues have come in below forecast.

"Unfortunately, if this trend continues, Democrats will send Minnesota’s budget into a deficit in the next biennium. Democrats took the wrong approach in our fragile economy, committing Minnesota taxpayers to historic spending increases in their budget. We urge Governor Dayton and Democrats to exercise caution and take a responsible approach to spending instead of wasting money on an office building and pay raise for politicians," said Republican Leader Kurt Daudt (Crown).

“As Governor Dayton and the Democrats finalize their spending plans for 2014, they should not ignore this warning sign telling us the budget they passed in 2013 may be in serious trouble. Minnesotans will not tolerate any more wasteful spending projects like the new Senate Office Building if our revenue projections don't hold up," added Senate Republican Leader David Hann (Eden Prairie).
