RELEASE: Rep. Peggy Scott Attends “Violent Crime Summit”

Wednesday, July 20, 2022

ST. PAUL, MN – On Tuesday, July 19, Rep. Peggy Scott (R-Andover) attended the Violent Crime Summit hosted by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association and Eckberg Lammers Law Enforcement Training and Consulting (LETAC) at the North Metro Event Center in Shoreview.

The Violent Crime Summit was attended by over 125 law enforcement officials, prosecutors, community leaders, and other elected officials. It featured speakers such as U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger, Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher, and law enforcement experts. Topics include gangs in Minnesota, investigating and prosecuting carjackings, use of force implications, juvenile violent crime problems and solutions, violent crime trends and more.

“As Republican Lead on the Judiciary Finance and Civil Law Committee I was honored to participate in the Violent Crime Summit,” said Scott. “All levels of government need to work together to support law enforcement, hold criminals accountable, and ensure prosecutors and judges enforce our laws in order to return safety to our communities.”

MPPOA Executive Director Brian Peters said, “Violent crime is at an all-time high in Minnesota. The increased crime rate has many of our communities in fear and departments inundated with increased cases. Coming together to discuss strategies for safer communities is imperative.” MPPOA is the largest organization representing public safety professionals in Minnesota.

LETAC Senior Director of Training (and former Washington County Prosecutor) Imran Ali said, “This summit was day of learning from professionals in areas of violent crime as they discussed current trends and offered solutions to combat this dire situation. Thank you to our state legislators who participated and shared important information and feedback about their work in St. Paul.”
