Legislative Update (May 6, 2016)

Friday, May 6, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

It feels like summer outside today! I hope you’ll head out and enjoy the warm temps.

Senate Bonding Proposal

Yesterday, the DFL Senate failed to pass a gigantic $1.8 billion bonding bill. This is large, even by Democrat standards. When we have a surplus, it doesn’t seem right to borrow almost $2 billion and expect hardworking Minnesotans to pay the tab. This may seem like free money to the DFL, but our state spends $1.5 billion every biennium to pay off our debt service. I’m proud of my Senate Republican colleagues who stood up against this monstrosity.

Around Town

There are a couple events coming up in Coon Rapids that may interest you. The first is a perfect event for kids, and it looks like the weather will be ideal. Tomorrow from 8 a.m. until noon, Coon Rapids is hosting a Kids Fishing Clinic at Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park. Free rods, reels, and a tackle box will be given out while supplies last. Here is a link for more information.

Next week is a Car Seat Clinic for young parents. The event is with the Coon Rapids Police and Fire Departments, and helps provide professional tips on car seat safety. It will take place on Wednesday, May 11 from 4-7 p.m. Feel free to click here for more information.

Happy Mother’s Day

One of my favorite things in the world is being a mom. Although my kids are growing up and out of the house, nothing beats spending time with them. To all the moms out there, happy Mother’s Day!
