Legislative Update (April 22, 2016)

Friday, April 22, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

We’re closing in on the final weeks of session, and I’m pleased with the direction we’re headed. We’ve already heard and passed some great bills to help Minnesota families, and I look forward to what else we can accomplish. Before we enjoy the weekend, here’s a quick update from St. Paul.

Highway 10 Bill

I’m a co-author of two bills, HF1207 and HF157, to improve Highway 10 in our area. This is a major transportation artery for the Twin Cities, and needs expansion. Thousands of families across the metro area use this highway as they travel north to spend time at our lakes. Currently, too many stoplights and slowdowns cause dangerous traffic congestion.

This bill is in consideration to be included in our bonding proposal. There are hundreds of bonding requests each biennium, so we don’t yet know what we will include. I’ll be sure to keep you updated if this proposal moves forward.

Removing Hazardous Waste

From 1962 until 1983, the Waste Disposal Engineering Landfill operated in our area to dispose of hazardous waste. Some of this waste is slowly leaking, and this is a serious issue for our community. I’m hopeful a bonding agreement could include the needed money to remove this waste and help clean up this issue. This project is one of MPCA’s top priorities in the state, and is estimated to cost around $12 million. Here is a link for more information.

Around Town

Tomorrow is a great chance for some spring cleaning. The City of Andover is hosting their Spring Recycling Day from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to recycle items in your home like appliances, TVs, or clothing. The city charges a small fee for some items, while many are free to recycle. If you’d like more information, please click here.

I’ve enjoyed seeing you in St. Paul and in our area. If we haven’t had a chance to chat, please call or email my office to share your opinion on any state issue. You can contact me by email at rep.peggy.scott@house.mn or call my office at 651-296-4231. You can also send me mail to my office address: 437 State Office Building, 100 Rev.
