Town hall tomorrow morning; 2014 session reaches midway point

Friday, April 11, 2014

Dear Neighbor,

Official business has wrapped up for the week at the Capitol. Now, legislators will spend more time meeting with people in their districts and observing Easter and Passover holidays during a brief break.

As a reminder, residents of District 12B are invited to attend a town hall meeting I will host at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 12 at the LaGrand Town Hall located between Garfield and Alexandria (501 Town Hall Rd. NW).

This is the approximate midpoint of the session and we can talk about what has taken place so far and what is on tap for the home stretch. I noted in my newspaper column this week how the pace of this year’s session has been fast. It seems as if the schedule is just as full, and the number of new bill introductions is over 3,000 once again even though we started more than one month later than last year (a budget year).

One of the big-ticket items for the second half of the session could be a capital investment bill which borrows to pay for construction projects all across the state. The House proposal bonds for $850 million and also uses $125 million from surplus funds for a package of nearly $1 billion. We can touch on that during the town hall meeting if people would like.

Hope to see you tomorrow morning,

Paul
