Two area cities land state financing for infrastructure projects

Monday, August 17, 2020

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Paul Anderson, R-Starbuck, announces two area cities – St. Martin and Starbuck – will receive state financing packages for infrastructure projects.

St. Martin is receiving a $1.8 million loan for the local share of utility costs along a County State Aid Highway 12 project being constructed by Stearns County. Starbuck has been awarded a pair of loans totaling $2,4 million to help replace aging sanitary sewer lines and watermains under Trunk Highways 28, 29 and 114.

Financing for the two projects is provided through the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority as part of a $122 million round of loans and grants for water and infrastructure projects throughout Minnesota recently announced for the first half of 2020.

“Congratulations to the folks in St. Martin and Starbuck who put together successful requests for funding,” Anderson said. “It is important to stay on top of infrastructure projects, yet competition is strong for limited assistance from the state. I have been pleased to support PFA funding from the Legislature over the years and these projects are good examples of why it is such a worthy cause.”

The PFA administers and oversees the financial management of three revolving loan funds and other programs that help local units of government construct facilities for clean water, drinking water, and transportation infrastructure projects. These PFA programs allow local governments to access low-interest loans to complete these projects at a saving for local taxpayers.
