Statement from Rep. Paul Anderson re: State economic forecast

Thursday, December 5, 2019

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Paul Anderson, R-Starbuck, issued the following statement regarding Thursday’s report from Minnesota Management & Budget indicating the state has a $1.3 billion budget surplus projected for 2020-21:

“It is nice to see that our economy continues to grow to the point our reserve account is now fully funded at nearly $2.5 billion and we still have $1.3 billion in surplus revenue remaining,” Anderson said. “This sets the stage for an interesting 2020 legislative session, where tax relief should be a top priority and tax increases should be non-starters. We should do the right thing and look at everything from repealing the state tax on health care to cutting Social Security taxes. This should allow us to address the Section 179 depreciation issue where farmers and other business owners are receiving letters stating they owe addition state income taxes.”
