Anderson congratulates Brooten for $1 million infrastructure grant

Wednesday, January 31, 2018

ST. PAUL – Rep. Paul Anderson, R-Starbuck, on Wednesday applauded an announcement from state officials that Brooten will receive a $1.03 million grant for infrastructure work to improve the city’s industrial park.

Specifically, a press release from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development indicates the funding awarded to Brooten “will support a sewer improvement project and roadway in an existing industrial park. The total estimated project cost is $2.78 million. These improvements will expand sanitary service throughout the park and extend a water main. This project will help retain employees and open up four vacant sites for future development.”

“Congratulations to those who were involved in putting together a successful grant application for Brooten,” Anderson said. “Infrastructure projects such as this one can be prohibitive for communities in Greater Minnesota, so it is good to see local people working to take advantage of tools that are available to defray costs. This is a prime example of why we make available grant programs such as this one.

The funding is a portion of $5.24 DEED approved for infrastructure projects in four Greater Minnesota communities. Royalton, Marshall and Luverne also have been awarded grants. Under the program, DEED awards grants for up to 50 percent of the cost of public infrastructure that supports economic development outside the seven-county Twin Cities metro area. Eligible infrastructure includes wastewater collection and treatment, drinking water, storm sewers, utility extensions and streets.
