Update from the House

Wednesday, July 20, 2016

Dear Neighbor,

I hope your summer has been going well. People have been asking me if a special session is going to happen in order to enact bonding and tax bills. While nothing has been set in stone, progress is being made in reaching an agreement. If the details come together, the third week in August has been mentioned as a target for a brief special session.

As you may recall, this year's tax bill passed the Legislature with around 90 percent approval. It would provide more than $800 million in tax relief for working families, college graduates, veterans, farmers and small businesses. Unfortunately, the governor vetoed the overwhelmingly bipartisan legislation due to a one-word error that some felt could easily have been fixed without vetoing the entire bill.

The bonding bill stalled when the Senate made some changes during the waning minutes of the session and time ran out on final passage.

Look for more as this subject develops, but my email updates will be on hold for the next few months. Campaign Finance Board rules prohibit legislators from sending emails like these once we reach the 60-day mark from the end of the regular 2016 session, which happens this week. We are able to resume sending updates after the November election and also may have a brief window of opportunity to pass along special session news if one takes place.

Until then, I will continue representing people of District 12B and am able to communicate with citizens individually. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, concerns or are looking for assistance. You can call my office at (651) 296-4317 or email Rep.Paul.Anderson@House.MN.

Thank you again for privilege of serving as your state representative and hope to see you at local events during the remainder of this summer.

Sincerely,

Paul
