Above, I joined several legislators and for a press conference in Morris today to talk about the importance of enacting legislation the House passed to assist the town in constructing a new water treatment facility.

Dear Neighbor,

Greetings and best wishes for a safe and pleasant Memorial Day weekend. Please take some time to honor our fallen soldiers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for us.

I was part of a group of legislators that conducted a press conference in Morris today to highlight the importance of funding a new water treatment facility in that town. This is one of the projects that now is on hold after the House passed a bill on Sunday only to have the Senate's last-minute changes grind things to a halt.

The House Speaker and a handful of other legislators were on hand and strongly urge the governor to call a one-day special session so we can rectify this situation.

To recap the Morris proposal, the state of Minnesota is mandating that Morris replace its water plant. Estimates show doing so will cost more than $18 million. The legislation the House passed that now is in limbo helps Morris defray those costs through grants and programs. Without enactment of the bill we passed, costly delays could occur and/or ultimately lead to huge spikes for water bills in Morris and Alberta.

This crucial project serves as a prime example of why it is so important for the governor to call a special session.

I will pass along more as things develop. Until next time, enjoy the holiday weekend.

Sincerely,

Paul
