RELEASE: Minnesota House Approves E-12 Education Budget

Wednesday, April 24, 2019

The House E-12 education budget would increase funding by approximately $964 per student in Bemidji schools.

SAINT PAUL, MN — Yesterday, the Minnesota House of Representatives approved an E-12 education budget that makes honest investments in every student in every public school across the state.

“All children deserve a world-class education, no matter where they live,” said Representative John Persell (DFL – Bemidji). “Building a brighter future for Minnesota requires investments to support our students inside and outside the classroom.”

Parents, students, teachers, staff, and administrators have told legislators that current funding isn’t adequate. The E-12 budget increases the per-pupil funding formula by three percent in the first year and another two percent in the second year of the biennium. This commitment will help schools keep up so they don’t have to resort to teacher layoffs, larger class sizes, or bond referendums and operating levies that push costs onto local taxpayers.

After the Minnesota Senate approves their E-12 education budget, legislators from both chambers will form a conference committee to reach agreement on a final budget.
