Biden's Vaccine Mandate

Friday, September 10, 2021

As many of you have heard, President Biden is rolling out a federal vaccine mandate. He is requiring private businesses to mandate that their employees get vaccinated. The mandate applies to any business with more than 100 employees.

When I heard this, I was outraged but not surprised. Time and time again, we have seen this president mislead the American people. In December of 2020, president-elect Biden assured the American people that there would be no vaccine mandate on his watch. His administration repeated this for months. Yet here we are. The president was lying to us.

Deceiving the public is nothing new for President Biden, but the way in which he thinks he can unilaterally impose new rules on the American people is appalling. First, the federal government has no place in these decisions. States should be allowed to govern themselves. That is why we have state governors, state legislators, and state judges. We do not need a detached, misguided president making decisions for our state.

Second, the president is not allowed to make law in this country. We have a Congress for a reason. Our Founding Fathers gave Congress the power to write law and draft policy for this nation. The president’s responsibility is to either sign or veto laws that are passed by Congress. Unaccountable law making is not a power given to the president.

Our Founding Fathers intentionally wanted the powers of the presidency to be limited. They were gravely concerned about the executive branch becoming a location of centralized power. Nevertheless, Biden is summoning the powers of the imperial presidency to issue mandates that the Constitution does not permit. We should all be alarmed.

President Biden is making things perfectly clear: if you go against his wishes, he will steamroll you. These are the actions of an unhinged tyrant.

I am joining my fellow Republicans in calling for civil disobedience against these unconstitutional mandates. We need to stand up and make our voices heard. If we accept that the president can unilaterally issue any mandate that he wants, then we have truly become a dictatorship and not a republic.

We will not stand for the subordination of the 10th Amendment; we will not stand for the destruction of federalism; and we will not stand for unconstitutional mandates.
