Legislative Update from Rep. Bob Dettmer

Wednesday, November 27, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

Next week, the Minnesota House of Representatives Health and Human Services Finance Committee will have a hearing in regards to the chaos that has been occurring within the Department of Human Services (DHS). It is long overdue.

Since session ended there have been more than a dozen reports of DHS dysfunction, ranging from breaking the law more than 200 times on $52 million worth of contracts, to paying out $3 million for people who were already dead.

The new DHS commissioner is expected to appear at this hearing and I hope we will finally get some answers as to why the turmoil continues within this agency. DHS incompetence has already cost taxpayers tens of millions of dollars, and the taxpayers deserve some answers.

It’s hard to believe Thanksgiving is almost here. With that, I wanted to take a moment to wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you have a wonderful holiday and are able to enjoy some quality time with your loved ones as you count your blessings.

This time of year, I am not only giving thanks for my family and friends, but also to our veterans and military members who have maintained our freedoms and put our country’s interests ahead of their own.

In addition, I am incredibly thankful for the privilege of representing you in the Minnesota House.

Once again, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Sincerely,

Bob
