RELEASE: Dettmer given MNSHAPE Health and Physical Advocacy Award

Monday, November 21, 2016
SAINT PAUL- Representative Bob Dettmer (R-Forest Lake) was awarded the Minnesota Society of Health and Physical Education Teachers (MNSHAPE) Health and Fitness Advocacy Award. This award recognizes outstanding contributions in the promotion of health, physical education, recreation, and dance by an individual or organization outside of the teaching profession.

Rep. Dettmer was given the Health and Physical Fitness Advocacy Award due to his chief authoring and passing HF2749, which included language that updated the Minnesota National Physical Education Standards, providing Minnesota Physical Education Teachers the tools needed to ensure that all students not only have the physical competence and knowledge, but also the social skills and motivation needed to continue to value a life of physical literacy.

Rep. Dettmer was presented this award at MNSHAPE's general session, which was attended by over 400 Health and Physical Education Teachers from around the state.

"Thank you to Minnesota Society for Health and Physical Education for recognizing me with their Health and Fitness Advocacy Award," said Dettmer (R-Forest Lake). "My bill, HF2749, improved physical education standards for our schools, and was passed with bipartisan support. This measure will benefit our children and our communities, both immediately and in the long-term. It was a privileged to author this bill in the Minnesota House, and it was an honor to receive this award from MNSHAPE."
