St. Paul, Minnesota – State Representative Ryan Winkler (DFL – Golden Valley) released the following statement on Minnesota’s budget forecast, which showed a surplus of $1.037 billion for the upcoming biennium:
"Today’s budget surplus is good for state government, but it won't do any good for Minnesota workers and their families on its own. A budget surplus is an opportunity and a choice. The easy choice is to tinker with the status quo and hand out tax dollars to the fortunate few who have lobbyists at the State Capitol. The right choice is to invest our surplus in a more prosperous future by supporting Minnesota's working families. We should prioritize quality, affordable childcare, a college tuition freeze, and significant infrastructure investments that will create good paying jobs.
"We have an opportunity to provide greater economic security for working families and give our children a real shot at success. Let's not squander that opportunity. Let's invest for a better future for all Minnesotans.”
